Social media site Reddit is testing NFT profile pictures in its app, according to the latest statements from insiders.

According to a spokesperson for the company, the feature is currently being tested internally, but it could become semi-public.

NFT Profile Pictures Being Tested By Applications

Testing a feature that would allow Reddit users to set any NFT they own as their profile picture. Twitter has announced that it will add a similar feature recently.

Reddit representative Tim Rathschmidt made a statement announcing this feature. He noted that Reddit is testing the ability to use NFTs as profile pictures (avatars) and verify ownership.

Also, Rathschmidt described the project as a small, internal test, and said he has not decided whether Reddit will roll it out more broadly. He added that the feature is not available to all users.

However, Nima Owji, an app developer not associated with Reddit, discovered a banner promoting the feature earlier this week, which means the feature may already be half-open.

Meanwhile, Twitter added support for NFT profile pictures last week. This feature, which is very similar to the feature announced by Reddit, tests the feature by limiting it to users who subscribe to Twitter Blue.

Reddit’s Other Cryptocurrency Activities

Reddit has signed many crypto money projects before. In May 2020, the company introduced cryptocurrency tokens for the /r/cryptocurrency and /r/Fortnite communities. These tokens named MOON and BRICK are based on Ethereum standards.

In June 2021, Reddit introduced its own NFT series called “CryptoSnoos”, based on the company’s alien mascot.

Last October, the company posted a job posting to build a larger NFT platform. In November, various reports suggested that the company could convert its “hybrid” system to one powered by NFTs.

Reddit has around 430 million monthly users, which means these features can promote NFTs to a very large audience.
