It was revealed that the script writing of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) was supported by a team of real military advisors who were tasked with explaining how in-game scenarios could happen in real life.

In an interview with The Guardian, creative director Dave Swenson talked about this process and how it affects the missions fans have seen in previously released footage of the new game.

Asking the military advisors the question “If you are going to enter the Gulag, how would you do it?” for the first scenario mission of the game, Swenson said that the advisors said, “We would probably have a team that would go in with a submarine and climb out. But it wouldn’t be just a team. We would always have a backup. We would probably parachute them.” He says that they received the answer “we would send them”. So most tasks may have been designed this way.

This isn’t the first time Sledgehammer Games has sought help from military advisors for a game. The studio previously did the same thing during the development of 2014’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released on November 10 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series
