Google made a design change to its Rich Communication Services (RCS) platform for Android 12 last month. Google Senior Vice President Hiroshi Lockheimer has called on Apple to use RCS, which replaces SMS technology.
Will Apple prefer RCS technology over SMS?
Famous golf magazine Golf Digest made a humorous Tweet about Apple’s iMessage. Golf Digest, which stated in the tweet that Bryson DeChambeau could not participate in the iMessage group chat due to using Android, drew attention to the platform incompatibility.
Hiroshi Lockheimer, who made a statement by quoting the tweet, said, “You can easily prevent group chats from causing problems in this way. An open invitation to people who can fix this: we’re here to help. ” he said.
Developed by Google, RCS continues to gain popularity worldwide. The new technology, which is supported by many service providers, is gradually replacing SMS.
Leaving the questions asked by The Verge about RCS unanswered, Apple refrained from making a statement on the subject. It is estimated that Apple will not use RCS technology in its products for a long time.
Starting in March 2021, the company has agreed with US carriers to use Google’s Android Messages app by default on all Android phones.
