Ray tracing, or RTX, which has an important place for new generation desktop GPUs and game consoles, is starting to take its place on mobile devices as well. ARM, which provides the infrastructure of important companies with its processor architectures, aims to bring a new breath to the mobile game world. The company, which will offer ray tracing support for the first time in the mobile world, will use these new GPUs in both premium and mid-range smartphones.

Semiconductor manufacturer ARM, which technology giant NVIDIA has tried to incorporate since 2020, but vetoed from large companies, the USA, and even Elon Musk, called Immortalis-G715 and is the first ARM to offer this feature on smartphones and tablets. announced that it will release the GPU.

RTX porting to mobiles with three new GPUs

RTX (ray tracing) technology, which is currently used in computers and new game consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, will also be available on Android phones and tablets with ARM’s new GPU. It is claimed that Immortalis-G715, which is built on the Mali GPU used by giant companies such as MediaTek and Samsung, will perform 15% better than the old generation Mali GPUs.

In order for ray tracing technology to be integrated into mobile phones, it is necessary to have powerful and well-equipped hardware. However, ARM has announced that the new GPU does not require high hardware. ARM also stated that the RTX will only use 4% of the core capacity of the Immoralis-G715 and increase its performance by more than 300%.

Alongside the Immortalis-G715, two new GPUs were introduced. The biggest difference between these GPUs, which were introduced as Mali-G715 and Mali-G615, was the number of cores. G615 will have 6 cores or less, Mali-G715 will have 7 to 9 cores and Immoralis-G715 will have 10 or more cores. However, there is not enough information about these two GPUs as the Immoralis GPU.

It supports Variable Rate Shading (VRS) on three GPUs. VRS is a system that allows game developers to determine where the GPU should focus, where it can use shortcuts. With the right adjustments, the game looks the same to the player, but with this technology, the frame rate can increase by up to 40%. It is also thought that VRS can be used to significantly reduce power usage in smartphones.

Three GPUs will be the fastest GPUs to date

All three GPUs introduced by ARM will provide a 15% performance increase in devices, and these GPUs will be the fastest ARM GPUs ever produced. The company has made a few other innovations in GPUs, including ARM Constant Rate Compression (AFRC), which triples efficiency and reduces bandwidth usage.

No announcement has been made about the official release date of the new Immoralis GPU and Mali GPUs, and it is unclear which smartphone manufacturer will use this technology first. However, ARM is expected to make this technology available in early 2023.
