Qualcomm and Samsung will continue their cooperation
As it is known, Qualcomm faced overheating and performance problems in Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 8 chipsets produced by Samsung Foundry. For this reason, the chip giant, which carries the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 production to Taiwan-based TSMC, may be planning to step back from its decision on the next generation 3nm and 2nm processors.
As reported by TheElec, Don Maguire, Qualcomm’s Vice President and CMO, announced that Qualcomm “continues its collaboration with Samsung” and that the company may re-work with the South Korean Firm for 3nm and 2nm semiconductor chips.
It is said that Qualcomm prefers TSMC for the production of 3nm chips. However, if the problems on the Samsung front are resolved, some new generation processors may bear the Samsung Foundry signature. Because today, Samsung has implemented GAA technology compared to TSMC, which uses FinFET structure for 3nm and 4nm chips, and this is expected to bring significant gains in terms of power efficiency.
