Significant acquisition move from Qualcomm
With the rise of electric vehicles and autonomous features in cars, the number of chips used by automakers is increasing, making the automotive market an important growth area for chip manufacturers. Autotalks manufactures special chips used in vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication technology for manned and driverless vehicles in order to increase road safety.
Qualcomm said last year that volume in its automotive business rose more than $10 billion to $30 billion. The company attributes this leap to the Snapdragon Digital Chassis product used by automakers and suppliers. Snapdragon Digital Chassis can provide in-vehicle infotainment and cloud connectivity as well as assisted and autonomous driving technology. In the statement, it was said that Autotalks’ solutions will also be included in the Snapdragon Digital Chassis portfolio. For now, no information has been given about the financial side of the purchase.
