READING NOW Qualcomm drops Arm cores: it will rival Apple
As you may remember, we told you that Qualcomm is preparing to say goodbye to Arm cores. Now Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is said to be the last smartphone chipset to include ARM CPUs. The chip giant, which has recently bought Nuvia, which consists of Apple engineers, can compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Apple “A” series processors.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could be unrivaled in its class

According to reports, Qualcomm will leave the Cortex-X5 and other ARM CPU designs for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 aside, and come up with a CPU configuration similar to the Apple A-series chips. Accordingly, it is stated that the new processor will be powered by two performance cores and six efficiency cores designed by Qualcomm.

As you know, Qualcomm’s current flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was introduced with a high performance 3.19GHz ARM Cortex-X3 core. According to the leaks, Snapragon 8 Gen 3 will keep this design and will be based on one high-performance X-4 core clocked at 3.70GHz, four performance cores and three efficiency cores. However, as of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, a special 2+6 design will be introduced.

This configuration points to potentially improved multi-core performance. So much so that sources close to the industry say that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be faster than the M2. Considering that the flagship processor will be based on LPDDR6 support and TSMC’s N3E process, we can see that these claims are true with higher clock speed and efficiency. However, let’s say that we have to wait a little longer for this.
