Qualcomm has been releasing processors specifically made for PCs as well as mobile devices for a while now. The company’s chips, under the Snapdragon 8xc brand, have been used in Windows laptops since 2018. And now the company has made a preliminary announcement for the Snapdragon X Series, announcing that it will ditch the 8cx branding for future PC chips in favor of something new and easy to remember.
In a press release from Qualcomm, “Snapdragon “Now, leveraging our next-generation custom Qualcomm Orion CPU, a major breakthrough in performance and power efficiency will power Snapdragon X and, when combined with our NPU, deliver accelerated on-device user experiences for the new era of productive AI.”
Qualcomm Oryon CPU was first announced in November 2022. At the time, the company said that this new CPU “will be integrated into a broad portfolio of Snapdragon-powered products, starting with PCs and including smartphones, digital cockpits, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, extended reality and infrastructure networking solutions.”
The press release states that the Snapdragon X brand will help the public recognize these chips as PC-specific products, unlike Qualcomm’s chips for smartphones and tablets. The Snapdragon
All this information can only be seen as a preview towards the full reveal of the Snapdragon X Series. Qualcomm says more details about the new chips will be provided at its annual summit in Maui, Hawaii, October 24 to 26.
