Smartphones cannot detect QR codes that are too far away, it is necessary to get very close to read them. Google is working on a new feature that will solve this problem. Android phones will be able to read remote QR codes very easily.

Auto-zoom feature is coming

Google is working on a new QR code scanner that Android phones can automatically detect and read by zooming in. This feature isn’t available on devices yet, but it’s in the latest APIs Google has made available for developers. The API leverages on-device machine learning to detect QR codes and protects user privacy by simply extracting barcodes.

The new auto-zoom functionality will be available on phones running Android 13 and higher. It is not yet known how effective the new feature will be on entry-level Android phones that do not have good cameras, and when it will come to models other than Google’s own phones.
