A new trend and meme pops up every day on the internet. Although most of them succumb to time and disappear after a while, some of them do not lose their popularity despite the passing years. “Rick Roll” is one of the jokes of the virtual world that defies the years.
For those of you unfamiliar, this joke involves sending someone a secret link to Rick Astley’s classic piece ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’. However, the latest version of this joke, which we can call quite futuristic, raises the bar quite a bit.
300 drones used for prank
On April 1, Sky Elements Drone Shows will unveil hundreds of customizable drones in Dallas, which will take the form of a QR code positioned accordingly. Those who took out their mobile phones and read the huge QR code in the sky had a lot of fun in the face of Rick Roll that appeared on the screen.
Speaking to the Dallas Observer about how this idea came about, Preston Ward stated that the idea came from a colleague who wanted to turn it into a Rick Roll meme, based on the idea of a QR code the company developed for the Halo series at Paramount+.
The team, who wanted to successfully broadcast the 30-meter-wide and 75-meter-high image in the night sky for 20 minutes, used 300 drones with GPS tracking systems and high-power LEDs for this.
Here is the joke that made hundreds of people laugh
Ward noted that this number may be several hundred people, and the videos circulating on the relevant social media platforms also confirm this estimate.
