The era of IMEI cloning is officially over. The issue, which has been on the agenda frequently recently and we learned that the latest bill is on the agenda of the parliament, is now in the Official Gazette. Accordingly, phones that have not received a signal for a year will be removed from the IMEI pool and their communication will be interrupted. This will deal a huge blow to those who carry out illegal activities, such as transferring the IMEI numbers of old phones to smartphones brought from abroad tax-free.

Phones that do not receive an uninterrupted signal for a year will be turned off.

As it is known, devices that have not received a signal for 7 years have been removed from the IMEI pool. However, this situation has now changed. Because with the new regulation, this period has been reduced to one year. In other words, when you buy a smartphone, if you do not use it uninterruptedly for a year and no signal is received from that device, communication will be disabled.

As we mentioned above, this situation largely puts an end to the illegal IMEI removal procedures carried out in order to be able to use a phone purchased abroad tax-free without interruption in our country. We should point out that 5-10 year old devices that have not been used for a long time are preferred for this job.

“The electronic identity information of devices that are detected not to receive service from electronic communication networks for one uninterrupted year after the last signal is received while registered in the Institution’s MCKS, will be blacklisted by the Institution.”

This regulation will enter into force on 1/1/2024.
