KRAFTON, Inc. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is now free to play (F2P) on PC and consoles. The move to the free-to-play model, announced at The Game Awards (TGA) last month, marks the beginning of a new era for the globally popular battle royale game.
With its transition to F2P, the game offers BATTLEGROUNDS Plus, an optional premium account upgrade that gives players access to new and exclusive in-game features. While all new players will start with a basic account with access to most game features, they can upgrade to BATTLEGROUNDS Plus for a one-time fee of $12.99 and gain access to:
- Bonus 1,300 G-COIN
- Survival Mastery XP + 100% Increase
- Career – Medal tab
- Ranked mode
- Private match option
- In-game items – including the Captain’s Camouflage Set, which includes a hat, camouflage mask and camouflage gloves.
Players who purchased and played PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS before switching to F2P will receive the PUBG SPECIAL MEMORIAL PACK, which includes automatic account upgrade to BATTLEGROUNDS Plus, Battle-Scarred Costume Set, Legacy Flask and Bolts Pan, and Legacy Battle-Scarred Nameplate.
UPDATE 15. NOW ACTIVE WITH 2 CELEBRATIONS TO F2P
With the F2P transition, Update 15. 2 is now live on PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. Update 15. 2 introduces the Tactical Gear, a new category of in-game items that offers new and existing players a variety of non-combat-only options to improve their in-game performance. Comprehensive Roles with Tactical Gear: Tactical Gear are unique in-game items that players can obtain during a match to offer additional levels of support to their team. The Tactical Gear fills a player’s primary weapon slot, but unlocks additional strategic options not previously available in the game:
- Dron: Dron is a tactical gear that will allow players to safely observe long distances and even pick up items without risking direct conflict. The drone will spawn on every map and operates within a radius of 300 meters.
- Emergency Gear: The Emergency Gear is a tactical gear that allows players to increase the healing potential for both themselves and their teams in the face of lower combat flexibility. Players with the Emergency Gear will gain the ability to interact with their damaged teammates, allowing their teammates to use one of their healing items. Players can switch between different healing items at the bottom of the screen, where the weapon’s firing mode would normally be. Emergency Gear will spawn on every map.
Advanced In-Game Fluency with Action Sequence: Thanks to the Action Sequence feature, players can queue up any action they want by holding down the key while an action is taking place. This action will take place immediately after the current action ends. For example, if you hold down the fire button while reloading, the weapon will fire immediately after the reload action ends. This feature is turned off by default and players can turn it on or off in “Settings” › “Gameplay”.
Improved Gameplay Experience for New Players with Refreshed Tutorials: Two new in-game training modes have been added to the game to create a richer gaming experience for new and returning players.
- Basic Training Mode: In this mode, players will go through five stages to help them become familiar with basic game mechanics, including basic character movements, looting and gunshots, looting and throwables, using healing items, and reviving downed teammates.
- Artificial Intelligence Training Match: In this mode, players can enter a match with 99 artificial intelligence-controlled bots to understand the flow of normal matches. Tutorial messages will pop up during each match to offer suggestions on how players should approach various scenarios.
- Lobby Training Missions: After completing the basic training mode and AI training matches, players can complete many extra training missions that will introduce them to additional game modes and features. Players who complete these missions will receive various in-game rewards.
