A workshop on “The Future of Communication and the Metaverse” was organized by the Association of Kindness, Assistance and Solidarity for Youth in İzmir. The workshop moderated by Ayşe Laçıner, the President of the Association, was attended by Ege University Communication Faculty Radio and Television Department Head Prof. Dr. Dilek Takikci attended as a speaker.
Making important statements, Prof. Dr. Emphasizing the future of communication and the metaverse, Dilek Takacı used the following expressions:
“The age is the age of communicators. Metaverse technologies have an important place in the future of communication. Blockchain technology; It makes it possible to process data securely without being centralized. The most popular application of blockchain is buying plots in the metaverse universe with cryptocurrencies. A virtual consumption universe has started to be taken for granted in our daily lives at full speed. Tremendous strides have been made in technologies such as data processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cryptography. Now, thanks to digital technologies, a simulation universe in which hyper-reality is experienced as if it were more real than our real life is pulling us into itself. It’s hard not to be tempted by the idea of a second chance at life. It is now about living in the image instead of watching two-dimensional images from the front.”
Talking about the concept of metaverse, Prof. Dr. “In Metaverse, designed as a digital space that will enable visual, auditory and even feeling, people are parts of the software as audio-visual bodies called avatars. They will be able to be in that space with their avatars that will represent their own bodily beings, interact physically with the space and other people, and see each other as if they are facing each other; They will be able to distinguish their gestures, facial expressions and facial expressions.”
Talking about what people can do in the constitutive metaverse, “People can perform many actions in this virtual universe that they can actually do; They can work, attend entertainment, concerts, receive education, have a job, shop, do sports. In short, Metaverse is an advanced internet technology that we exist in thanks to virtual glasses without using a mouse and keyboard. Of course, the security problems, legal regulations, monopolization, social and psychological side effects brought by these technologies are also a matter of discussion.
Prof. Dr. Teamci ended his statements with the following statements:
“Communication training also has to be renewed in parallel with computer technologies. It is necessary to create joint training modules with Computer Engineering. While software is the field of engineering, the scenario and visual design of the universe that will create the content of the software is our field. In this context, communication education should constantly renew itself in an organic connection with digital technologies.”
