Internal company documents revealed by Windows Latest say that Windows 11 users may soon see an “AI-powered live wallpaper”-like feature for their desktops. This makes the wallpaper appear to ‘pop’ off your screen as you move your cursor across the screen, changing its appearance depending on the movement of the cursor.
In addition, Windows Latest points to the possibility of adding a ‘parallax effect’ to the desktop background, saying that wallpaper will be made to move more slowly in the background than overlying windows and applications, creating the illusion of depth to make your background look more immersive.
We’ll likely only see AI-powered wallpapers on devices that can support motion detection, so we may see the feature on newer, more powerful machines first.
Even if it’s just a stylish wallpaper at this stage, it’s exciting to see Microsoft using AI to improve the aesthetics of your device. From what we can tell, these depth and motion effects should work with most images you might use as desktop backgrounds, saving you the hassle of searching for live wallpaper apps.
This could also be the first step in creating a truly immersive and interesting background with the help of AI, as we may see new features emerge once Microsoft rolls out this feature. Hopefully the company improves on this and offers more fun and interesting ways to make your device your own.
