At a time when we face greater droughts every year, our search for new sources of water continues. Although one of the biggest possible sources in this regard is the sea, it requires hundreds of thousands of dollars of investment to treat salt water meticulously enough to turn it into drinking water. But scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have succeeded in developing a device that will enable individual purification.

Just the size of a handbag, the new device made it portable to convert seawater into drinking water. Weighing less than 10 kilograms, the device requires very little power, contrary to what its complex appearance suggests. So much so that the device can be used even with a powerbank with fast charging support.

It purifies with electricity instead of filter:

The device distinguishes itself from all portable purification devices that have been put on the market so far. . Unlike other portable purification devices that require the water to pass through a filter, this device uses electricity to separate particles from the water. Thus, the operating cost of the device decreases as it does not require filter replacement.

The newly developed purification device has the potential to be used in all areas with limited resources such as communities on small islands, ships and long-term military operations, with the advantages of low energy need and only electrical filtering. The device can purify 0.3 liters of water per hour, consuming only 20 watts of power per liter. The resulting water has a quality above the standards of the World Health Organization.
