In mid-August 2022, the space agency NASA confirmed that they had located a piece of garbage discarded during the landing of the Mars rover Perseverance. In addition, devices such as Spirit and Opportunity are among them. Scientists believe there is more to the planet.
There are many sources of this pollution caused by humans. The first of these is that spacecraft that land on Mars leave garbage behind. In addition, end-of-life vehicles are left on the planet’s surface. On top of that, there is also fragmented garbage left over from vehicles that landed unsuccessfully. When all these come together, a disturbing image emerges.
When the materials that had come from the Earth to the surface of Mars were collected, it turned out that there was about 10 tons of material. Also, scientists are very worried about garbage. The biggest reason for this is that the garbage puts future Mars missions in danger. In order to prevent a possible situation, all vehicle remains are documented.
In addition to all these, there are nine spacecraft that are one piece of the Martian surface, but that are not working. These are Mars 3 lander, Mars 6 lander, Viking 2 lander, Viking 1 lander, Beagle 2 lander, Sojourner probe, Spirit probe, Phonix lander and Opportunity probe.
