Polkadot founder Gavin Wood donated $5 million DOT to support Ukraine against Russian invasion.
Ukraine announced on February 26 that it will accept donations in crypto to resist the Russian occupation. The country first announced that it will accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT).
Wood said he would donate $5 million of the DOT if a public Polkadot address was given later.
Ukraine accepted Woord’s offer and published an address to collect donations with Polkadot. Wood kept his word and donated 298,367 DOTs. At the time of writing, this amount corresponds to a value of 5.6 million dollars.
More donations were also made to the published address. The largest donation made after Wood was the $10,000 DOT. The wallet currently holds $5.83 million of DOTs.
Ukraine has managed to raise tens of millions of dollars in crypto donations in a short period of time. The country’s Bitcoin address has raised more than 200 BTC, while its Ethereum address has raised more than 2500 ETH.
