The Polish national football team flew to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, accompanied by a military plane. Fourth generation F-16 Fighting Falcon warplanes escorted the plane carrying the Polish football team to the Polish border.
This was announced by the Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak via Twitter. Poland borders Ukraine, where the Russian Armed Forces have been conducting military operations since February 24.
2022 World Cup starts today
The players set off from the Okecie military airport in Warsaw to go to Qatar. The country’s Ministry of Defense allowed F-16 Fighting Falcon warplanes departing from Krzesiny airbase to accompany this aircraft.
The 2022 World Cup will kick off in Qatar on 20 November. The tournament will end on December 18. The Polish national team will face Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in the World Cup group stage. They will play their first game in Qatar on November 22 against Mexico.
