Podcast application Overcast, developed by Marco Arment, has a new look with a major update. The application, which is only available in the App Store, begins to offer the features that users have wanted for a long time with the update, and Armet says that more features will be added to this renewed design in future versions.
Refreshed Overcast design
Overcast, with Version 2022.2, aims to give users more control over podcasts and the app. Users can now customize the look and order of playlists, as well as the color of the playback controls.
Looking at the version history of the app, all the innovations with the new update:
- Redesigned home screen throughout the app, fonts and many other elements (other areas such as the currently playing screen will be redesigned soon)
- You can now choose your own theme colors
- Playlists can now have custom icons and colors
- Playlists can now be reordered by dragging on the home screen
- Starred, Downloaded, and Added ongoing list options
- Recent episodes are now displayed on the home screen and can be long-pressed to preview
- Podcasts can be pinned to the top of the list and pinned podcasts can be reordered by dragging
- Episodes can now be marked as “played”
- Notifications are much more reliable
- Links are now in Safari unlockable
Spotify will integrate live sound into its main app
Overcast wants to have more say in the competition with Apple Podcasts with this big update.
