There has been an important development regarding PlayStation 5, the new game console released by Japanese technology giant Sony a few years ago. According to the statements made by sources close to the company and preferring to remain anonymous, Sony is planning major changes in the design of PlayStation 5. Allegedly, the new design will be the only model to be produced and sold in the future. In other words, the distinction between ‘digital version’ and ‘normal version’ will disappear.
Allegedly, Sony is not planning any hardware changes for the PlayStation 5. So even if the design changes, the hardware will stay the same. Sources close to Sony state that the new model will be released in September 2023 and will be permanent. So what kind of design change is Sony planning for the PlayStation 5?
PlayStation 5 may come with an external disk reader!
According to the news of Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming, Sony continues to work on a PlayStation 5, which does not have a disc reader in the console. You can think of this design as the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which does not currently have a disc input. However, Sony engineers will place a new USB Type-C port on the back of the console. This port will enable the PlayStation 5’s external disk reader to work. Thus, players will only connect this external equipment when they want to play the game on the disc.
Making such a design change means that the free space inside the game console will increase. This may allow the PlayStation 5 to become lighter and even smaller. In fact, the minor design changes made to date have already made the PlayStation 5 smaller. The new update will also confirm the same result. Finally; It is said that Sony plans to manufacture 18.5 million consoles for 2023, of which 12 million have been ordered to manufacture. If this claim is true, in 2023, 6.5 million PlayStation 5 with new designs will be produced and presented to the players.
