Last weekend, fighting game enthusiasts gathered in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA for the Evo 2023 tournament. However, the posts of some players on social media revealed that the tournament did not go well for everyone.

Evo 2023 saw a lot of use of Sony’s popular game console PlayStation 5. For example, 7,000 players competed in the main game of the tournament, Street Fighter 6. As this is the case, the consoles at the event could not stand the PS5 controllers that were constantly plugged in and unplugged throughout the weekend.

Overuse caused PS5’s USB port to remain in game controllers, allegedly even melting

Many users have reported that the USB port on PlayStation 5 is stuck in their controllers in the posts they share on social media. It was claimed that the reason for this was the heating of the consoles after too much use.

In most of the shares, it is stated that the blue plastic piece in the USB port on the console remains in the controller. For example, an X (Twitter) user named “SabreAZ” who took part in the tournament said, “Evo shows that PS5 is not the right option. USB ports are melting,” he said. A user named “Kyoku236HS” shared a photo of what happened. In this user’s post, it was seen that the plastic came out rather than melted.

Apart from this duo, other users also shared photos and showed what was happening on the consoles. Although most people claim that the console is too hot to touch and the port is melting, there is no evidence of this. What’s more likely is that this part of the console has been smashed due to overuse.

However, it is not acceptable to have such a problem in such a big tournament. That’s why event officials need to find a solution for this in the next tournaments. Some users affected by the situation say that they want to switch to Xbox or PC. Let’s say that the Evo is owned by Sony. The tech giant bought the esports promoter in 2021.
