New sales figures for the approximately 10-year-old game console PlayStation 4 have emerged. It was stated that the PS4, which Sony has slowed down its production and brought to the point of completion, has sold 117.2 million units to date. That means it’s the fourth best-selling console ever.

PlayStation 4 sales hit the 120 million mark

The latest report by Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at research firm Niko, revealed the success of Sony’s previous console. Sony, which has sold 117.2 million PS4s since 2013, is smiling.

Thanks to these figures, PlayStation 4 is the fourth best-selling console. Game Boy and Game Boy Color are in third place with 118.7 million, and Nintendo DS family is in second place with 154 million. The world’s best-selling console was PlayStation 2 with 155 million.

Although the PlayStation 4 has done great things with its sales figures, it doesn’t seem like it will sit in the fourth place much. Nintendo Switch, which has already reached 111 million units, is “in the middle of its life cycle” according to the Japanese manufacturer’s statement.

After it was announced in 2013, the productions for the PS4, which managed to revolutionize the game world, came to a standstill. Turning all its efforts into the new generation PlayStation 5, Sony still has not reached the desired figures. Last month’s report showed that 21.7 million PlayStation 5 units were sold in two years.

The ongoing global semiconductor crisis has affected Sony’s operations the most. Sony, which failed in PS5 production and could not satisfy the players, guaranteed to solve the supply chain problems.
