Samsung will introduce the Galaxy S22 series smartphones in the coming days. The South Korean company shared an interesting detail in its latest press release. The company mentioned an “environmentally friendly” material used in its new devices.
Samsung will use recycled plastic from fishing nets thrown into the ocean to manufacture its latest Galaxy series smartphones. The company said in a statement that it will soon include this material in its entire range, with the first example being the Galaxy devices that will be unveiled on February 9.
640,000 tons of fishing nets are thrown away every year
It is not yet clear in which parts of the products and to what extent the recycled plastic from fishing nets will be used. Drawing attention to the report of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, Samsung says that 640,000 tons of fishing nets thrown into the oceans every year disturb the delicate balance of the ecosystem to an alarming degree.
Collecting and reusing these materials is vital to keeping the oceans and the planet clean, according to the South Korean company. Samsung will provide more information about the new material at the Galaxy Unpacked event, where it will introduce its new flagships.
