It has to be said that this year has been really great for Nintendo Switch owners. Many games that we can call the best games of the year have been released and I think a new one has been added to them recently. Pikmin 4, the new game of Pikmin, one of Nintendo’s well-established game series, has made its debut. Even though I’ve played every game of the Pikmin series, I have to say that I’m not that familiar with the series, but I really couldn’t help playing the fourth game. I played for about 30 hours and I continue to play with the same excitement and enthusiasm.Let’s start our review with the gameplay side. In fact, Pikmin’s logic is preserved in this game. You have creatures called Pikmin in different styles and each one has certain characteristics. These creatures follow you constantly and you fulfill the tasks by giving them commands. Initially, our goal is to find the crew lost on an earth-like planet due to a spaceship accident. For this, you start with your dog and expand your team by finding various Pikmins. Thanks to the different features of the Pikmins, you can enter places you cannot enter and you fight with different enemies.
Although it sounds simple when you tell it, it has a simple but challenging logic in itself. You can take a certain number of Pikmin with you and produce a certain number of Pikmin. That’s why you need to expand your headquarters first, but at the same time you need to complete the quests in order to progress. Of course, you have limited time to do them. That’s why you need to use your day efficiently and improve the headquarters, Pikmins and your dog, while collecting new Pikmins and fulfilling the quests. Since you have to go to the headquarters at the end of each day, you have to use your team well. This actually turns the game from a straight strategy game into a more layered game. As I said, Pikmins have different features. For example, the blue one turns the water into ice, so you can travel comfortably in areas with water. However, if there are areas such as electric field in the area you go to, you need to take yellow Pikmin with you this time. Since the number of pikmin is also limited, you need to set up your strategy well, otherwise you will spend a few days for a job that will be finished in a short time.
Dungeons, which are indispensable for Nintendo games, are also available here. Of course the name is different. There are different puzzles and different enemies in these areas. Especially in these parts, the diversity of Pikmin is very important. Before the region you enter, a summary is given to you about the region. You need to create your staff by looking at this information so that you can move more easily inside.
The fighting part has a similar structure as in the old games. The fighting parts are also enjoyable, but it feels a little different from the actual gameplay as it is a bit more messy. Finally, it is necessary to mention the challenge sections that you encounter from time to time. In these parts, you race against time by using a specific mechanic of the game and try to fulfill the task. These types of challenge missions normally don’t have a very good reward and you don’t want to get in there, but in this game it’s the opposite. You want to go every time you get stuck because the reward is nice and the challenge is enjoyable.
The regions you go to are also quite wide and different. That’s why the game becomes much more layered. You know Nintendo games, although they have a simple appearance, the game is very easy to learn, but it is very difficult to specialize and go into details. But this difficulty is not of the tedious kind, but of the exhilarating. This game is exactly like that, thanks to its incredibly simple structure, you learn easily and as you go into the details, you become a corner of joy in the mechanics. I haven’t played a game lately where I really wanted to explore the gameplay side of it so much and I got carried away.
Of course, the game also has a story part. Actually, I’ve never followed Pikmin stories that much. I have to say that I didn’t follow this game either. However, it still has a structure that can give you a purpose. This allows you to connect even more to the game.
There is not much to say in terms of visuals. However, since the region we discovered this time resembles the world, I can say that it has a different structure. Still, he hasn’t strayed too far from the cartoon style. You can’t focus too much on the sweetness of Pikmins anyway.
To sum it up, Pikmin 4 is definitely among the best of this year. He knew how to protect and renew the foundation he established in the past. It was a very enjoyable game with new mechanics. Switch owners already know the game, but I can say that if there is anyone who does not know, who is afraid to buy it, they should definitely buy it. For me it is clearly one of the best at the moment.
