The 48th leg of the “Small World Photomicrography Competition” organized by Nikon every year has started recently. The photography contest, in which we descended into worlds at an almost microscopic level, hosted magnificent frames.
While the winner of the photography contest was announced, a photograph submitted to the contest attracted the attention of the whole world. Lithuanian wildlife photographer Eugenijus Kavaliauskas has revealed an ant’s face in details we have rarely seen before.

Although many ant photographs entered the competition this year, as every year, this photograph, which is among the 57 ‘Images of Distinction’ photographs of Eugenijus Kavaliauskas, managed to stand out. Kavaliauskas’ photo made the ants look like they had stepped out of a fantasy world. Kavaliauskas could not be among the winners of the competition with this photo and won a $35 Nikon item in the category.
