It looks like Meta is pretty confident about bringing AI to all of its products and services. At the Connect event it organized, Meta revealed that it has established a system centered almost entirely on artificial intelligence. At the Connect event, the company introduced new artificial intelligence photo editing and sticker creation features for Instagram.

Meet Instagram Restyle

The tool, called “Restyle,” looks like a supercharged AI filter. The feature allows users to transform their existing photos into different looks. “Consider writing a descriptor like ‘watercolour’ or a more detailed prompt like ‘collage from magazines and newspapers, torn edges’ to describe the new look and feel of the image you want to create,” the company explained. You can watch the GIF below to understand how the Restyle feature works.

The company also previewed a new tool called “backdrop,” an AI-powered green screen feature. Users can seriously change their relevant photos with this feature. For example, when the prompt “surround me with puppies” is typed, a new version of the image can be created with the relevant background applied. The company didn’t say when the restyle and backdrop would be available to Instagram users, but said the vehicles would be arriving “soon.”

Posts created using both background and reshaping will be shared with a label indicating the use of artificial intelligence to avoid fraud or confusion. Meta hasn’t shared what the tags will look like, but informational screens that read “Image generated by Meta AI” have previously been seen on Instagram.

Meta also showed off new AI-generated stickers that will be available on Instagram, as well as WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook Stories. The feature allows users to quickly create custom stickers for their chats and Stories via text commands. Meta announced that the stickers will be available in English “within the next month.”
