Netflix’s entry into the world of mobile gaming is certainly an interesting move. The comments from the giants of the game world also show this. Phil Spencer, president of Xbox, believes the streaming service firm is on the right track by getting into the gaming business, and describes its efforts as “smart.”
In an interview with The New York Times’ Sway podcast, Spencer talks about how tech companies are starting to look for games for inspiration, and cites Netflix as an example: “I think what Netflix is doing is smart. They’re buying a few studios. Interactive entertainment. They’re learning about the creative process. And I think that’s a very smart way for them to move into this space.”
Spencer states that he disagrees with the comparisons between Netflix and Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Like Netflix, Game Pass gives users access to a huge library of Xbox games, but Spencer reminds you that Game Pass also gives you the option to buy and own games: “From a streaming perspective, they’re similar. For us, I’d say the difference is in the business model – music You can buy every game included in this subscription, which is slightly different from a subscription or movie subscription.
Netflix recently started offering a small selection of mobile games exclusive to its platform and included in the subscription. So, there is no additional cost to the regular Netflix subscription to access these games.

The game options are still quite scarce and consist of only seven games, but they are now playable on both Android and iOS devices. As long as you are a Netflix subscriber, you can play these games unlimitedly; You don’t need to “torment” with in-game purchases either.
While it currently has no plans to release video games for consoles and/or PC, Netflix acquired Night School Studio, the studio behind Oxenfree and its sequel, last year.
