Biontech vaccine goes to approval for toddlers!

In a joint statement, the companies announced that the vaccine produced a strong immune response (antibody) in children aged 5 to 11 years. In addition, two major pharmaceutical companies stated that they will apply for FDA (US Food and Drug Agency) approval in a short time. However, they noted that the vaccine would be administered at a lower dose than in people over the age of 12.

Pfizer and Biontech announced that they will soon forward their data to the necessary authorities for the COVID-19 vaccine. That is, they plan to submit it as soon as possible to regulatory authorities in the European Union, the United States, and around the world.

Meanwhile, the trial results are the first of its kind for kids under 12. Moderna is currently in trials for children aged 6-11. Pfizer and BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is effective and safe when administered in two doses of 10 μg (micrograms) 21 days apart in the 5-11 age group. The dose of vaccine for people 12 years and older is 30 micrograms.

Side effects are generally the same as those who are vaccinated between the ages of 16 and 25. The most common side effects include pain and swelling at the injection site, as well as headache, chills, and fever. In the statement, they did not mention the side effect of vaccine-related myocarditis (inflammation) in the heart muscle, which occurs mostly in young men.

Pfizer and Biontech are continuing their COVID-19 vaccine trials in infants aged six months to two years. Likewise for children aged 2-5… The trial results are expected to be announced by the end of the year. In addition, 4,500 children aged six months to 11 years participated in the trials. However, despite the strong results, it will take some time for the vaccine to arrive for this age range.
