The global problems experienced in recent years continue to affect people’s mental health deeply. While the COVID 19 pandemic, which emerged in 2020, was one of the most important reasons here, mental health problems continued to increase in 2021.
According to the second annual world mental health report, while people’s mental health was negatively affected by 8 percent in 2020, its pace slowed down a bit in 2021 and there was a negative decline of 3 percent. While the reason for the slowdown in the decline seems to be the slowdown of the COVID 19 pandemic and the normalization of life, it is thought that economic depressions can reverse this.
According to the announced report, the worst results in terms of mental health belong to the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Latin American and Continental European countries’ results look better.
On the other hand, the younger generation draws more attention to negative mental health. It is stated that only 7 percent of those aged 65 and over and 44 percent of young people have mental health problems.
