PCIe Gen 5 technology, which is expected to bring a new breath to the SSD world, is unfortunately struggling with problems. With the rise of the performance bar, different problems began to emerge, from noise to overheating.

Does it make sense to buy a PCIe Gen 5 SSD?

Gen 5 SSD models, which were first released in Japan, have become available globally thanks to brands such as Corsair and Micron. As a result, real use tests also fell on the internet. The first models are not very encouraging.

In the past months, it has come to the fore that the Gen 5 SSD drive of the Japanese CFD Gaming brand has increased fan speed and therefore noisy. It was revealed that the Corsair MP700 model turned off the controller after overheating and the computer went to a blue screen.

The Micron Crucial T700 model, on the other hand, follows a different path to at least not give a blue screen. It tries to prevent overheating by reducing the speed of the controller. In this case, data transfer speeds drop to the level of 100MB/s.

Actually, the source of the problem here is the Phison E26 controller. When it reaches 86 degrees, security software has to activate different solutions. In this regard, it is strongly recommended to choose Gen 5 SSD models with integrated cooling solutions. On the other hand, although there is no problem in gaming and professional laptop models, these problems can be annoying in laptop models that care about thinness.
