US-based technology giant Google announced a new feature called “Passkeys” earlier this year. This new feature offered users an alternative way to password entry when logging into their Google accounts. Users who activated the Passkeys feature could choose to use a fingerprint, face scan or PIN code instead of a password when logging into Google applications or a website using their Google account.
The latest statement about this feature, which has been in the testing phase for a while, reveals that all users will now be encouraged to use Passkeys. Google will now activate this new feature by default for both corporate and individual users. From now on, when the user tries to log in to his Google account, he will use biometric data or PIN code instead of traditional password or two-factor codes.
Google believes Passkeys feature is safer!
If you have a Google account and have set up your account and enabled two-factor authentication, you have already applied an extra layer of security for your account. Google says that Passkeys is a better method than this because cyber attackers can access all the details on the phone when necessary. Passkeys, on the other hand, will require biometric data or unregistered PIN codes when you try to log in. Google stated that Passkeys is 40 percent faster.
The new feature, which is still in the distribution phase, may appear when you try to log in to your Google account. If you see a notification about Passkeys and want to start using this feature, all you have to do is follow Google’s instructions and enable the security layer of your choice. After this process, you will not need to use a password to open your Google account.
We have already seen services similar to Google’s Passkeys feature in some software. Our past experiences have revealed that the necessity of remembering passwords has actually disappeared. In fact, this is exactly what Google is trying to do. Publishing a post on its official blog page today, the company said that thanks to features such as Passkeys, the use of passwords will be completely eliminated, and user security will also be increased while this is happening.
