The automobile market has been going through tough times lately. Due to the effects of the epidemic and the chip crisis, automakers are unable to produce their vehicles. Even if they produce, they deliver their vehicles to their customers with missing equipment such as Tesla and BMW. This puts car owners and car manufacturers in trouble.
Due to this situation, worldwide automobile sales continue to decline. Especially in our country, there is a decrease in sales due to the shortage of automobiles. According to the new report announced, there are serious decreases in passenger car sales in the European market.
A decrease is observed in passenger car sales in Europe!
According to the latest report, car sales in Europe fell by 29 percent in October. The reason for this was stated as the chip crisis in the automobile industry. According to the report, Hyundai, Kia, Porsche and Smart are among the companies that managed to increase their sales despite the general downward trend. But some companies are not as lucky as them.
Important companies such as Jaguar and Ford experienced a serious decrease in their sales. Together with these reports, the company that sells the most automobiles in the continent has also changed. Volkswagen Group, which experienced a 42 percent decrease in sales last month, was overtaken by Stellantis, which suffered a 32 percent decrease in volume. Thus, Stellantis became the best-selling car manufacturer in Europe with 165,866 sales last month.
The main reason for the Volkswagen Group to experience this decline is the lack of chips. Due to the chip crisis, the company closed its Wolfsburg factory, which produces its best-selling car, Golf, several times. This caused sales to drop. The CEO of the company announced at the conference held in Berlin that they went through a bad process and that he hoped they would get through this process.
Porsche was the only brand to increase in the Volkswagen Group with 13 percent. Apart from that, Skoda fell 49 percent, Audi 46 percent, Volkswagen and Seat fell 40 percent. Although Stellantis is the best-selling manufacturer, it could not escape the decline. Alfa Romeo’s sales fell 46 percent. Sales of Jeep and Lancia also fell 36 percent. A 32 percent decrease was observed in Fiat, another brand.
There were also decreases in the PSA group in Stellantis. Opel/Vauxhall and Peugeot fell 31 percent. Citroen, on the other hand, fell 33%. Despite these experiences, Hyundai, one of the South Korean manufacturers, increased its sales by 11 percent, while Kia increased its sales by 2.6 percent. Other automakers also observed declines.
In short, the chip crisis hit the automobile industry seriously. Decreased production due to the shortage and epidemic in the supply chain affected everyone. The effects of this crisis are expected to continue in 2022 as well. So, what are your thoughts? How long will the chip crisis last? Do not forget to write your comments and opinions below.
