Discord has briefly introduced a new Party Mode to celebrate its seventh anniversary. However, this fun new feature doesn’t seem like something you want to run on your system from a CPU usage perspective.
Party Mode is a purely visual add-on with no real user benefits that adds some audio and visual changes like cheering crowds, confetti and a combo counter that appears as you type. Although it has no functional use, we can say that it is certainly interesting to use for a short time.
However, as reported by PC Gamer, all those intriguing confetti explosions and various other party-themed effects can get too busy for your CPU. Some users even claim that just turning on the new mode causes a 30% increase in CPU usage.
The troubleshooting information recommended by the official Discord Support for those who have problems using the feature is as follows: “If you have Reduced Motion enabled, it may conflict with Party Mode. You can set this setting by going to User Settings > Accessibility > Enable Reduced Motion and toggle it on/off. You can check by checking if the button is on. Please note that certain features of Party Mode, including Confetti and Screen Shake, will be disabled depending on whether Reduced Motion is enabled.”
It is no longer possible to verify these claims as Party Mode only worked for one week from 8pm on Friday, May 13th to 3am on Tuesday, May 17th. However, you can experiment with various themes and plugins to optimize your experience or customize the look to suit your style.
