One of the issues we conveyed to you in the past months was the revaluation rate to be applied in 2022. According to the law, the revaluation rate for 2022 would be 36.20 percent unless a different decision was made. This situation was directly related to the participation share to be taken from the grocery bags that all citizens bought for 25 cents. In fact, Yavuz Eroğlu, President of the Plastic Industrialists Research Development and Education Foundation (PAGEV), who made a statement on the subject, said that they wanted a raise in grocery bags in 2022 because the money that went into the state’s coffers from this business increased to 25 cents, and that the markets would not earn even 1 cent.

The demand for a raise regarding market bags was conveyed to the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum a while ago. We also shared with you that the Institution rejected this request. But now, there has been a development that can completely change this situation. A communiqué was published in today’s issue of the Official Gazette. The communiqué published by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, which will be valid as of January 1, 2022, reveals that all money taken from grocery bags will go to the state.

25 kuruş participation fee will be collected from 25 kuruş market bags.

According to the communiqué in today’s issue of the Official Gazette, the state increased the “recovery contribution amount” received from grocery bags to 25 cents. In other words, as of tomorrow, the markets will not make a profit from the bags they sell to customers for 25 cents. In fact, the cost of bags will be directly out of the pockets of the markets.

Although all profits in grocery bags will go to the state with the decision, it is not clear what awaits us at the moment. On the one hand, there is the demand of the markets, and on the other hand, there is the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum. Today’s issue of the Official Gazette, on the other hand, leaves the bag costs entirely to the markets. It is highly possible that we will see new statements and decisions on the subject in the coming days.
