Panos Panay, responsible for the development of the Windows operating system and Surface series devices, is leaving Microsoft after 19 years. The experienced manager announced this decision on his personal X (Twitter) account. The software giant informed its employees about the departure of the important name via an e-mail.
In fact, Panay’s resignation was a bit sudden. Because he said that he would be happy to attend the launch of the new Surface product series on September 21. However, Microsoft spokesman Frank Shaw said that Panay will not take part in this week’s event.
Panos Panay joined Microsoft in 2004 as a program manager and soon became head of Surface development. After 14 years at the company, he became chief product officer in 2018 and subsequently led the development of Windows 11.
The place was filled immediately
Panay was appointed vice president of Microsoft in 2021 and joined the company’s senior management team. He directly advised Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The veteran name, who has made great contributions to the company, will now open a new page in his career.
Consumer marketing manager Yusuf Mehdi, who has been working at the company since 1992, will take over the seat vacated by Panos Panay. He will handle the Windows and Surface businesses. The organizational change coincides with a very busy period for Microsoft, which is accelerating its efforts to add artificial intelligence features to Windows 11 and is said to release Windows 12 next year.
