Felicity Ace, one of the auto transport ships, was in danger of extinction as a result of a fire in the middle of the ocean while transporting the vehicles to the USA. All crew of the ship were rescued without loss of life. But more than a thousand Porsches in it were left to their fate. Here are the details…
Felicity Ace had hundreds of other cars besides Porsche!
Felicity Ace, which has no crew as of now, is stated to have not only Porsche but also hundreds of vehicles from Bentley to Lamborghini. In fact, a Bentley official who made a statement on the subject confirmed that 189 luxury cars were on this ship.
Additionally, in recent months Felicity Ace has transported Lamborghini models such as the Bentley Bentayga, Flying Spur and Continental GTC as well as the ten Huracans across the continents. In the current time, it is claimed that SUV models named Urus are also included. However, no official statement has been made by the company yet.
It has been confirmed that there are nearly 1300 luxury vehicles on board, mainly Porsche and Bentley. However, looking at the cargo manifest, it is said that there are 2,500 cars in total. 1,100 of them are Porsches loaded from Stuttgart. The rest consists of Bentley (189 units), Audi and Volkswagen brand cars.
A Porsche spokesperson, who made a statement on the subject, confirmed that the details of the cars are known and that customers affected by this disaster were contacted through their dealers. He then said:
It is too early to confirm what happened and take next steps. However, together with our colleagues at Porsche AG, we support our customers and dealers as much as we can to find solutions.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. But with the help of the Portuguese navy and other ships nearby at the time, the 22 crew members of the cargo ship Felicity Ace were rescued. Then they were all brought ashore. However, the condition of all the remaining vehicles on the ship is not known clearly.
A rough calculation shows that of all Porsche vehicles on board, even if the Macan is the company’s cheapest model, 1,100 of them cost more than $60 million excluding taxes. When we factor in the other Bentley, Audi and Volkswagen cars and the cost of the ship, the overall loss approaches $100 million.
