In August 2021, Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer Panos Panay announced the redesigned Clock app for Windows 11. In addition to a brand new UI, the app would have Spotify integration that would let you play specific tracks to help focus. It’s a good idea to have a selected playlist section to increase productivity, but the idea needs to be working first.

Feature that has been broken for three months

This “game-changing” feature that Panos used during the announcement is currently not available. The integration stopped working about three months ago and there is no improvement yet. On the other hand, a Microsoft representative says that the company is aware of the problem and is working to fix it, but there is no mention of an update.

There are numerous complaints on Microsoft’s official support forums from users reporting problems connecting their Spotify account to the Clock app: Clicking the button shows Windows 11 a blank login screen and nothing happens. A Spotify representative revealed the source of the problem. According to what’s been transferred, an expired certificate is preventing the Clock app from connecting to the service.

It looks like the integration crashed earlier this year, about three months ago (or more). Usually, issues like these don’t require a comprehensive fix, so it’s hard to explain why the issue is taking so long to resolve. Moreover, no one uses the Spotify integration of Windows 11; many users are asking Microsoft to fix the problem. Unfortunately for now, Windows 11’s game-changing feature is not working, and no one knows when it will return.
