Oura sues Circular for allegedly copying smart ring patents

Smart ring company Oura has sued Circular, another company in the industry, for allegedly infringing patents covering both the ring design and biometric data collection. Oura suggests that Circular is copying its own technology in its upcoming wearable.

‘Oura exhibits monopolistic behavior’

Although the patents allegedly infringed are extensive patents for smart ring development, it remains unclear how the case will proceed.

An OURA spokesperson told Engadget: “At OURA, we embrace creativity and innovation in healthcare technology, including our competitors, but we cannot accept direct copying as it does nothing to help consumers or advance our industry. The lawsuit against the circular addresses willful infringement of at least two OURA patents.” made statements.

Circular accuses Oura of monopolizing the smart ring market, while it is unknown how the case will progress. A Circular spokesperson said: “Our aim is to achieve innovation for the greater good, and the monopoly situation has never triggered innovation.”
