OptiFi, a DeFi trading protocol in Solana, accidentally shut down its mainnet, rendering $661,000 of user funds inaccessible.
According to the OptiFi team’s incident report, the error occurred while trying to update the protocol’s mainnet. The team said the process took longer than expected, possibly due to network congestion in Solana. User funds remained locked even though the update was cancelled.
OptiFi Accidentally Shut Down Mainnet And Funds Locked
OptiFi accidentally shut down its mainnet while trying to upgrade, and the protocol’s funds were locked. It is stated that it will remain closed until Solana validators accept a patch that will make the protocol recoverable.
The developers of the protocol used a command called “close program to left” to reverse the creation of this broker account by closing the program. Unknown to the team, this command shut down the protocol and permanently frozen the tokens. Thus, user funds worth $661,000 were locked on the platform.
OptiFi said it has learned from the incident, that it will take steps to ensure that the same incident does not happen again, and plans to compensate all affected users.
