Competition in the Android phone market is increasing day by day. Continuing their investments in this direction, device manufacturers have recently started to turn to their own processor designs. Among these names, it turned out that Oppo, which has done successful work with the Marisilicon NPU (imaging processor), is now working on a new processor for smartphones.

Today, one of the sources close to TSMC reported that Oppo is currently developing an application processor for smartphones and the initial testing phase of the processor is nearing completion. Although the technical details of the new processor are unknown, it is stated that TSMC will enter mass production in the third quarter of 2023 with 4nm FinFet production technology and an external 5G modem.

Today, Apple, Huawei, Google and Samsung are developing their own special processor designs for smartphones. Following the footsteps of its competitors in this area, Oppo may shelve Qualcomm and MediaTek processors in the future.

No statement has been shared from the Oppo front yet about the new leak. However, in recent weeks, the smartphone giant announced that it has signed a global cross-licensing agreement with Chinese telecommunications company Hua. This agreement, which includes communication patents such as 5G, may confirm the new chipset from Oppo.
