OPPO introduced ColorOS Ray Tracing 3D Wallpaper with the industry’s first ray tracing technology for smartphones at the Game Developers Conference 2022. Participants had the chance to experience multiple real-time ray tracing wallpapers in Find X5 Pro, the latest flagship model introduced by OPPO recently. The 3D wallpaper is scheduled to be released via an APK later this year.

The ability to leverage ray tracing technology on smartphones makes it more immersive and It will bring more realistic game graphics for competitive gaming experience. Our 3D wallpaper will also serve as a starting point to explore future applications on smartphones.”
Ray tracing stands out as a graphics processing technology that simulates the physical behavior of light and has been adopted in computers in the past. Adopting ray tracing technology, 3D wallpapers can render light at usable frame rates in real time, making shadows, reflections and refractions of displayed objects more vivid and lifelike. It also allows users to interact with wallpapers through hand gestures such as flip, tap and shake.
Beginning to develop ray tracing technology in early 2018, OPPO initially adopted a hybrid visualization method to gradually introduce ray tracing to existing mobile devices. Later, Find X5 Pro developed a new approach to accelerate ray tracing performance using hybrid architecture and custom hardware cores.
In the future, OPPO will introduce its 3D wallpaper as an APK to Find X5 Pro users, as well as an SDK package to help global developers, artists and designers enable their creativity.
