OpenSea has rebranded Gem V2 as OpenSea Pro to win back users lost to the emerging NFT marketplace Blur.

The project released OpenSea Pro on Tuesday, April 4th. Offering new features and tools to users, the platform also allowed listing on OpenSea for a limited time with 0 percent fee. Many users were excited about the launch of the new platform and expressed their feelings on Twitter.

Community Members Shared Their Opinions

A community member posting on Twitter congratulated the NFT marketplace and said it would improve users’ experience in the NFT space. Another user stated that they have always loved Gem, but now they like it even more as OpenSea gives it the right priority.

However, there were community members who criticized this move. A community member said the platform should be about art and artists, but more like a commerce tool.

Alongside the positive and negative sentiments, community members also expressed their expectations for where the race between OpenSea and Blur would lead. NFT strategist Hunter Solaire said this battle is heading towards further development in space.

OpenSea had acquired Gem in April 2022 to appeal to more experienced NFT collectors and improve their experience. Following this development, Gem reduced gas fees by allowing investors to purchase NFTs in different marketplaces and various collections in a single transaction.

Some believe this move was made to compete with OpenSea’s rival Blur, which surpassed its trading volume. OpenSea has also implemented other strategies to win back users lost to Blur, such as providing more revenue to NFT creators.
