OpenAI, the name behind artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E, has made a remarkable move. The company announced that it has launched a bug bounty program to detect and fix security vulnerabilities. Collaborating with the security platform Bugcrowd for this program, the company believes it can protect its users with such a move.
Security concerns about OpenAI were raised for the first time in March. Hackers, who managed to infiltrate the infrastructure of the company’s artificial intelligence-based chat bot ChatGPT, managed to capture the credit card information of customers who paid for the chatbot. Making a statement about the incident, OpenAI confirmed this security vulnerability.
Governments don’t trust OpenAI systems either!
The discussions about OpenAI weren’t just about that. The Italian government took a decision about the company and banned the use of artificial intelligence tools developed by OpenAI. One of the main reasons for this decision was the unnecessary and unreliable collection of user data. With this; The Japanese government also announced that artificial intelligence tools can be integrated into government systems if privacy and cybersecurity issues are resolved. All of this led OpenAI to launch this bug bounty program.
Within the scope of the bug bounty program initiated by OpenAI, rewards ranging from 200 to 20 thousand dollars will be given to researchers who find vulnerabilities in OpenAI systems. The amount of these rewards will be determined by the severity of the vulnerabilities detected. It seems that the vulnerabilities to be detected will enable the artificial intelligence tools developed with OpenAI to become more secure. We will see over time how effective the program will be.
