OpenAI, which has been around everyone in recent months with its artificial intelligence tools, has recently introduced its most advanced language model, GPT-4. The new model came with many impressive features. After that, it was started to talk about when the company will release the GPT-5, which is expected to be the next language model.
Now, a statement came directly from OpenAI’s CEO and founder, Sam Altman, on this subject. Altman announced that, contrary to rumors, the company is not currently developing the GPT-5.
OpenAI won’t improve GPT-5 for a while
Speaking at an event held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Altman stated that OpenAI does not currently train GPT-5. Altman, in the continuation of his statement, emphasized that this model will not be developed for a while. The CEO’s statement at MIT came during a conversation about the threats posed by artificial intelligence.
Altman was asked about an open letter recently signed by several prominent figures in the tech industry, including Elon Musk. This letter highlighted concerns about the security of future systems, so it demanded that the development of artificial intelligence tools be stopped. However, many experts criticized the letter and said that there was no need for such a thing.
While the CEO stressed that the letter did not include many technical details about where to pause, he added that an earlier version of the letter claimed OpenAI developed GPT-5. At this point, he shared the news that the new language model is not currently being developed and denied the rumors. He also added that because of this he found the letter a bit “stupid”.
Of course, just because OpenAI isn’t currently developing GPT-5 doesn’t mean it won’t expand the capabilities of GPT-4. Altman says that they have carried out many studies, especially on security.
This news, which shows that there is still a lot of time to see the GPT-5, came after many rumors about the model. In the past weeks, it has been suggested that OpenAI has started work, and it has been claimed that the model will be introduced in December and can reach levels indistinguishable from human beings.
