The AFAD Emergency Call mobile application, developed by AFAD, a subordinate of the Ministry of Interior, was developed for the help of citizens in times of disasters and emergencies. The application gives warnings by sending advance notifications about disaster situations affecting your region. In cases where you need urgent help, it helps you to call for help easily.
AFAD’s Emergency Call mobile application did not receive enough attention in Rize, where flood disasters occur frequently. Promotional announcements were made in the city for the application to be downloaded. They were promoted in mosque sermons and social media by the Rize Governor’s Office. Despite all these promotions, only 900 people downloaded the application in Rize.
Call from the Governor to the citizens!
Rize Governor Kemal Ceber stated that disasters occur frequently in the city, but the AFAD application was downloaded by only 900 people. Governor Ceber stated that citizens can easily call for help thanks to the emergency call system of the application and that the emergency response teams’ work becomes easier thanks to the location data.
Regarding the advantages of the application, Governor Ceber said, “In the application downloaded to mobile phones, there are 4 buttons around a round button ‘I am injured’, ‘I am under the rubble’ or describing the situation. As soon as he presses the button, the system sees that our citizen is in a difficult situation and needs to be reached, and his position from there. It makes our job a lot easier. Because when there is a disaster, the citizen calls and says ‘the flood has come’, but sometimes 2 hours pass before we understand its location. This program solves this problem. “I want all our citizens to download this to their mobile phones,” he said.
