Especially with the pandemic, people started to communicate with each other more online. Both those who work remotely and those who play online games have become very popular among people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Believe it or not, it turns out that this situation pushes people’s brains to work in sync.
In a new study conducted at the University of Helsinki, researchers subjected a group of people to experiments on this subject and discovered that people’s brain waves synchronized with each other without the need for physical presence.
‘You control it, I’ll shoot’
In experiments, researchers asked a pair of subjects to drive a race car during a game, and both subjects were placed in soundproof rooms. The researchers examined the joint driving experience of two different subjects, one controlling the steering wheel and the other managing the accelerator and brake pedals.
According to the results, the brains of the experiments synchronized while playing online games. With the increased synchronization in the alpha and gamma frequency bands, the driving experience of the subjects also became close to perfect.
One of the researchers, Valtteri Wikström, thinks that our social brains are actually developed for face-to-face communication, but with such empathic online interactions, people can increase their productivity online as well.
