Every year, tens of thousands of tourists (estimates range from about 30 to 50 thousand) try to climb to the top of Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro. And it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that most of these climbers will want to share their experiences online.

Tanzania has finally taken the mountains of high-speed internet as a brand new service, making it possible to live tweet, Instagram posts and share TikTok videos. In addition, uninterrupted internet connection will increase the security of both the tourists visiting the region and the guide.

Nape Nnauye, a Tanzanian official, shared on Twitter after announcing that the service was put into service, “Now, tourists will be able to call and share from the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro to all over the world”.

The country’s state-owned internet provider, Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation, reportedly completed the network setup last Tuesday. Internet connectivity currently reaches 3,795 meters above sea level. Plans include extending this range to the highest point of the mountain, the 5,880-meter Uhuru Peak.
