Google Messages has been made a much more useful communication tool with the RCS (Rich Communication Services) system, which was integrated 4 years ago. Group chats in this service, which many Android users are not aware of yet, will now be end-to-end encrypted.
So what is RCS?
This service, called Rich Communications Services (RCS), is not well known, although it has been available on Android since 2019. The biggest reason for this is that almost everyone uses WhatsApp as the default communication application today.
The best example of RCS is Apple’s iMessage service, which it has been using for years. Within the scope of this service, it is possible to chat between iPhone devices only with an internet connection. Google has also integrated this service into its messaging application for Android.
Group chats in Google Messages will now be encrypted
Until now, a group conversation in Google Messages was not even encrypted with RCS because these conversations were not end-to-end encrypted by default.
Google has promised at its annual I/O conference that it will improve some of the RCS features in the Messages app. The company seems to be keeping its promise, as Google announced in a new blog post that RCS interactions in the Google Messages app will now always be end-to-end encrypted.
Encryption will be fully enabled by default and will be applied to all your group messages as long as you use RCS. RCS is growing in popularity among Android users, but unfortunately Apple has not yet made this feature available to iPhone users messaging with Android users.
Google also retaliated through an advertisement for not taking action against Apple at the time. Apple has yet to make any breakthroughs in this regard.
