As technology advances, the distance between humanity and space is getting shorter. Although the universe is home to many mysteries, question marks are finding their answers day by day. The expansion rate of the universe, one of the biggest mysteries about space, will be answered by black hole collision.

The expansion rate of the universe will unravel thanks to colliding black holes

Scientists first determined in the late 1990s that the universe is expanding at a certain rate. However, the expansion rate of the universe, called the Hubble constant, has not reached a definite conclusion so far. Scientists have found this ratio in different results to date.

According to Space.com, we are facing an event that will give the most accurate result for the expansion rate of the universe. Scientists will be able to calculate this ratio more precisely with matches called “spectral sirens”. This calculation will be made with black holes preparing to collide.

When two black holes collide, they cause ripples in space-time that scientists call gravitational waves. Scientists want to reach the most accurate statement about the speed of the universe by calculating the changes in these signals.

On the other hand, scientists say that this event alone will not give the full statement about the speed of the universe. In addition, the James Webb Space Telescope is one of the biggest weapons in this regard. The telescope had imaged the oldest known galaxy in the past days. Scientists think that one day full expression will be achieved thanks to Webb.
