While the entire technology world held its breath for the launch of the iPhone 15, the struggle of the suppliers for the iPhone 16 has already begun. Samsung and LG have presented their new generation OLED panels to Apple’s taste.

What is OLED MLA?

Apple has been working with Samsung to supply OLED displays since the iPhone X era. From time to time, different companies such as LG have taken small-scale tenders, but Samsung has never changed as the main player. A new competition may begin with the iPhone 16.

According to the information received, Samsung and LG have developed a new technology for the OLED screen to be used in the iPhone 16 series. In this technology, called micro-lens array OLED or OLED with MLA, a microscopic lens layer is placed between the OLED panel and the glass. This layer redirects light reflections that are normally lost in the interior, increasing both efficiency and brightness. However, there may be some reduction in viewing angles.

One of the reasons why Samsung and LG want to use this technology is that they still haven’t been able to reach the level Apple wants for the iPhone 16. Thus, they will be able to convince Apple with a new technology. On the other hand, they also want the Chinese BOE to stay in the background a little more in OLED auctions.

OLED with MLA is still a new technology and is used in Samsung’s S Ultra smartphones. It is obvious that Apple will want the technology to mature in this respect. This will result in accelerating investment in technology.
